How to Make Homemade Flatbread in Under 30 Minutes

Flatbread is one of the most versatile and easy-to-make bread options. Whether you use it for wraps, pizzas, or as a side for soups, homemade flatbread can elevate your meals. Here’s how to make soft, delicious flatbread in under 30 minutes.

Gather Simple Ingredients

Flatbread only requires a few basic ingredients: flour, yogurt, baking powder, and salt. You can use all-purpose flour or experiment with whole wheat or gluten-free varieties. The yogurt keeps the bread soft and adds a slight tangy flavour.

Mix and Knead the Dough

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add yogurt and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. If the dough feels sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

Roll Out Thinly

Divide the dough into equal portions (about 6 pieces for a standard recipe) and roll each one into a thin, round or oval shape. The thinner you roll, the softer and more pliable the flatbread will be.

Cook on a Hot Skillet

Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Cook each flatbread for 1–2 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another minute. The flatbread should puff slightly and develop golden spots.

Serve Fresh

Homemade flatbread is best served fresh and warm. Use it as a base for pizzas, a wrap for sandwiches, or a side for curries and dips. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a skillet to regain their softness.

Making flatbread at home is quick, easy, and incredibly satisfying. With just a handful of ingredients, you can create a delicious addition to any meal.
