Easy Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta

A comforting pasta dish with a creamy tomato basil sauce that’s ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 300g (10 oz) pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried basil (or ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir. Season with salt and red pepper flakes, if using. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Make it creamy: Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Cook for 2 minutes, then add the Parmesan cheese and dried basil. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  5. Combine with pasta: Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil, extra Parmesan, and enjoy!
